Solar PV

Would you like to know more about Solar PV for business?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions customers ask us about installing Solar PV.

What does it cost?

The price of an installation will vary considerably depending on roof area and system size installed.  As you’ll appreciate for commercial premises factors like roof access costs, roof type, roof pitch and orientation can also influence the cost. It’s important that we know your specific requirements because that’ll help us design and cost a system that most accurately meets your present and future needs.

We can carry out a desktop study using google earth and come up with an estimate and a calculation of your annual system production to a degree of 5% accuracy. We’re always happy to provide free advice and supply a competitive written quotation.

How soon will I see a return on my solar investment?

Depending on your electricity consumption and the size of your system the pay back period for a commercial system can be anywhere between 4–8 years. Most of the return on your solar investment comes from a combination of the ‘free’ electricity you generate for your direct use, the Government subsidy (Feed-in-Tariff) and the export payment – that’s the surplus power you sell back to the national grid.

We’ll give you precise estimates on all of these with your quotation. However, its comforting to know that over the 20 year government feed-in-tariff period the overall return on your investment will be between 9-18% (IRR%). But don’t forget your system will still be providing substantial energy savings for decades after the government incentives have finished. That’s all a very healthy return for your green, energy-saving initiative.

Will there be any disruption to my business?

Generally, we do not impact day to day business activities in any way. On average a 30kWp system will only take 3-5 working days to complete, and there are very rarely shutdowns of power required. In summary we work with you to ensure that our programme fits with you.

LED Lighting

Would you like to know more about LED for your business?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions customers ask us about LED lighting.

What’s the life of an LED bulb?

LED bulbs and diodes have an outstanding operational lifetime expectation of up to 100,000 hours. In practical terms, this is 11 years of continuous operation or 22 years of 50% operation. That’s impressive!

LED’s are different to standard lighting. They don’t burn out and stop working like a standard light, moreover the lighting diodes emit lower output levels over a very long period of time and become less bright. So, no sudden blackouts, which makes planned maintenance so much easier and more economical.

Are LED lights suitable for outdoors?

LED lighting is ideal for anywhere that’s subject to low or severe cold temperatures. So, they’re not only eminently suitable for our outdoor use in all weathers but also for indoor areas that are subject to low temperature – for example, cold storage areas and freezer rooms.

By contrast, fluorescent lamps often struggle in low temperatures. Replacing fluorescent lighting with an LED system can therefore reward you with a far more reliable light source.

Are LEDs robust enough for high vibration working environments?

Yes. LEDs are extremely durable and built with sturdy components that are highly rugged and can withstand even the roughest conditions.

Because LED lights are resistant to shock, vibrations and external impacts, they make great outdoor lighting systems for rough conditions and exposure to weather, wind, rain or even external vandalism, traffic related public exposure and construction or manufacturing sites.

Infrared Heating

Would you like to know more about Infrared heating?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions customers ask us about this cost effective alternative to traditional convection heating.

Are infrared heaters safe?

Yes. In fact, they’re probably the natural form of heating for a home or office. The description ‘infrared’ may cause some people to wonder about how safe they are but the simple fact is that it`s the same kind of energy as emitted by the sun. It is completely safe and natural for humans and animals – you absorb it on a daily basis every time you go outside in the sun.

Are infrared heaters economical to run?

Yes. Infrared heaters heat solid objects rather than the air. The result is that you can generate the same amount of heat with considerably less energy. So, you’ll save money and enjoy a more comfortable and evenly heated premises. It really is a very efficient form of electrical heating.

Can infrared help control damp and condensation?

Yes. Because infrared heaters warm up solid surfaces like walls and windows they’ll help to keep those surfaces dry. Damp to walls and windows often occurs when warm air makes contact with a cold surface. Keeping those surfaces warm should ensure that they also stay dry.

Are there any health benefits to infrared heating?

Infrared is a very benign form of heating – there are no fans or noisy moving parts, so you’ll enjoy a quieter environment. There is no air disturbance either so dust or pollen-laden air is not circulated around the area. If you like the idea of being warmed gently by the sun’s rays, then this is the effect you’ll feel from infrared heating – a natural, reassuring experience.

Do infrared heaters require maintenance?

No. As there are no moving parts there is very little that can go wrong. All you have to do is switch them on. If you want to clean them, just make sure they’re off, and use a soft, dry cloth to wipe them down. It really is that simple!
